It speaks, I think, to the larger societal trend of parents obsessing and hovering over their offspring to an unprecedented degree (a parenting style which may well backfire - see, e.g., the much-talked-about Atlantic article from this past summer, “ How to Land Your Kid in Therapy.”) I may stir up some reader ire here, but this obsession over creating (or buying) the perfect lunch box note - indeed, the sending of any kind of lunch box note with great frequency – strikes me as a little icky.
