A good alternative is a wooden coffin made of unpainted Dutch wood from sustainably managed forests. The glue used to produce plywood contains formaldehyde, which is harmful to the environment. A plywood coffin is the least eco-friendly choice. These are made from organic residual waste. There are coffins that are completely biodegradable when buried and that cause virtually no air pollution when cremated. Organic cotton, linen, silk, or hemp garments are eco-friendly options for both burial and cremation. Synthetic clothing does not biodegrade and is more harmful to the environment when cremated than clothing made of natural materials. Eco-friendly clothing, also known as sustainable fashion, promotes environmentally responsible practices throughout the entire clothing lifecycle. This includes using organic or recycled materials, minimizing water and energy consumption in production, and reducing waste. Eco-friendly clothing brands often prioritize fair labor practices and ethical sourcing. Consumers can support this movement by choosing sustainable fabrics, opting for secondhand clothing, and looking for certifications like GOTS or Fair Trade. By doing so, they contribute to a more eco-conscious and socially responsible fashion industry, reducing its impact on the planet.
